Gig Harbor is a great place for youth and families. Not only is the educational system exceptional, but quality of life and activities are perfect for families and kids. The area boasts many talented school bands, the Peninsula Youth Orchestra, as well as the acclaimed choral group from Gig Harbor High School, "The Meistersingers." These are just a few of the musical youth groups. Additionally, aspiring youth actors will find that Encore! Theater and the Paradise Theatre offer opportunities throughout the year for acting in community theater, as well as summer acting camps and productions.

Recreational opportunities are numerous for kids in Gig Harbor. In addition to the many parks and beaches, the Gig Harbor Skate Park is located just behind the Gig Harbor Civic Center, go to this website for a skater's review and photos. The Peninsula Athletic Association offers organized basketball and baseball. Gig Harbor Little League and Key Peninsula Little League both provide baseball opportunities for kids, first-grade and up.   Peninsula Youth Football is another volunteer run organization with kids in mind. In the Good Ol' Summertime

Youth from around the region join local kids at the many summer camps in Gig Harbor including Miracle Ranch or YMCA Camp Colman.

Kids are also welcome in the summer for special youth programs in the Gig Harbor Sailing Club, Tacoma Yacht Club Sailing Team and all the local golf courses.

There is a Kids Kayak Day Camp offered by Gig Harbor Rent-A-Boat & Charters. It is a a youth introduction to kayaking program for kids ages 9-14 in July and August. Kids learn the basics they need to know to paddle a kayak safely and effectively.
